We look forward to being your first choice for pond plants and water garden supplies.

Pond plants are essential in creating a well balanced ecosystem in your water garden. It is recommended to have one third to one half of the surface area covered with plants.

Choosing pond plants from each of the four groups of water garden plants will help create a balanced ecosystem in your pond. A brief description of each of these groups follows.

FLOATING PLANTS - Floating pond plants are prolific growers and will spread across the waters' surface providing shade and coverage for the water gardens inhabitants. Floating aquatic plants are excellent for filtration because their roots absorb nutrients from the water that might otherwise cause algae. The roots of the floating plants provide spawning places for fish and create a hiding place for baby fish. Water Hyacinth and Water Lettuce grow best in water temperatures of 65 degrees. Make sure your water temperatures have warmed up before adding them to your water garden in the spring. As they spread during the warm months, if you find you have an over abundance of them, simply net some out of the water garden and use them for compost in your flower beds or vegetable garden. The leaves and roots are full of nutrients and make great compost. These popular floating plants will not survive a winter freeze, and most pond owners replace them yearly because of their great ability to keep the pond water clean and help fight algae naturally. Water Hyacinths and Water Lettuce are regulated in some states. Know your state laws when ordering aquatic plants.

SUBMERGED OXYGENATING PLANTS - Submerged plants are often referred to as oxygenating plants. Submerged plants receive nutrients from the water and help keep water clear. Baby fish love to hide in Hornwort and Anacharis. Use one bunch for every 2 to 4 square feet of surface area. No need to plant, simply attach weights and sink to the bottom of the pond.

HARDY WATER LILIES & TROPICAL WATER LILIES - We offer a large selection of hardy waterlilies for your pond. Your water garden isn't complete without a waterlily. Water Lilies are available in a variety of colors and sizes. The lily pads provide shade and protection for your water garden inhabitants. The waterlily plant, once established in your water garden will reward you with many flowers throughout the summer months. Hardy lilies will bloom continuously May thru September. They overwinter well and the water lily will return in the spring once again rewarding you with a lovely pond plant. Tropical Water Lilies are spectacular aquatic plants that make a magnificent centerpiece for your water garden. Hardy water lilies have very beautiful flowers, but the tropical water lily with its larger, flashier and very fragrant flowers are the ones that command the most attention. Flowers of the tropical lily rise several inches out of the water and are more prolific and fragrant than hardy lilies. Tropical waterlilies are spectacular pond plants.

BOG PLANTS, LOTUS AND MARGINAL POND PLANTS - Hardy bog plants and tropical marginal pond plants accent the water garden by adding shape and color to the water garden. Adding bog plants or marginal plants along the edge of the water garden, stream bed or waterfall will give your pond a more natural appearance. Many of the tropical bog plants will winter over as house plants. Lotus pond plants are a beautiful addition to your water garden. Lotus are hardy perennials and will reward you with exotic flowers year after year. The larger varieties have leaves capable of reaching 2' in circumference and colossal flowers up to 12" in diameter. Lotus are well suited for patio container gardening also. Care must be taken during the winter so that the tubers do not freeze. Lotus are shipped from March through June and need water temperatures of at least 65 degrees to plant.
