The roots of the water hyacinths provide a hiding place for baby fish and create spawning areas for the fish.  These plants perform best in full sun, but will tolerate part shade. Water temperatures need to be 60 to 65 degrees when adding them to your pond in the spring.  These will not survive winter in colder climates. Pond owners replace them annually, for their natural ability to help keep pond water clear and fight algae.
